PLACING A VIDEO ON A WEBSITE |
We have had many requests from our Members about
how to place a video on a webpage that streams
(starts playing on the web page without having
to download the video file). Here are some
instructions that will help you do this.
You will need to upload
your flash video file to the internet if it
isn’t already there, can be anywhere as long as
you have the correct url for its location.
You will need a player on your webpage to play
(stream) the flash movie. You can get it here:
http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-flv-player
.
Make sure you see the detailed instructions
at the bottom of the page
with an example and the HTML code for your
website. Unzip and copy these player files to
the same folder as your web page.
They have a useful setup wizard at
http://www.longtailvideo.com/support/jw-player-setup-wizard
that will automatically generate the HTML code
for you that you will need.
The wizard is handy because you can specify what
you want the player to do such as autostart,
display of controls etc. It will then generate
the code, you can see if the code is correct
because the flash movie should play on the
screen. Once that happens you copy and paste the
generated code onto your webpage in code view.
On that page in this section:
2: Change Your Flashvars
Click on each link, there is a drop down where
you can select your preferences, for Embed
parameters / source just leave it as
“player.swf”
When specifying the location of you flash file
in the File properties / file section, give the
full url of the location of the video file on
the internet starting with http:// ...
e.g.
http://www.mysite.com/myvideofile
etc.
As mentioned above, you can make sure everything
is good because your video should start playing
on the screen after you click Update Preview &
Code at the bottom of this page and hit the play
arrow button on the video screen.
You will need to upload your flash video file to
the internet if it isn’t already there, can be
anywhere as long as you have the correct url for
its location.
www.longtail.com has many tutorials and a forum to
help you.
